Notes:Recorded on 11 March 2023 at the Liepāja Concert Hall Great Amber.
Trio Colossus is intended as an extended form piece for jazz trio (tenor saxophone, upright bass, and drums), double-sized symphony orchestra in an expanded format to include big band instrument groups.
The inspiration for this piece was drawn from legendary jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins’ exemplary achievement, the album Saxophone Colossus. It was recorded on the 22n of June, 1956, and ranks among the most important jazz music albums of all time. “The Island”, with its latin style, and the up-tempo swing of “Local Jazz Room” are callbacks to Sonny Rollins’ original compositions “St. Thomas” and “Strode Rode”, which are among the author’s most covered themes. The second part of Trio Colossus, “Close to A Standard”, was conceived as a jazz ballad with an extended bass solo.
